- “Tell us something about yourself and when did you first realize you want to be a writer?”
I work as an Assistant Professor in a small college in Kerala. Writing has always been a passion for me. I remember writing poems back when I was six. Writing has become an outlet for me to express what I felt and thought. My blog is where I continue to write and bring out my inner voice.
- “Tell us about your book – ‘Docile No More’
“Docile No More”, I am glad to say, is my first publication. It’s an anthology of poems on a variety of topics ranging from scenes in the classroom to a bird’s attack on people’s hair. I have experimented with both form and style, while retaining language in its simplest form.
- “What made you write on this topic?”
The poems are a collection based on a wide variety of topics that influenced me in some way. When something catches my attention I write about it in poetic form; even a simple prayer can make me think and write.
- “Where do you get the information and material for the book?”
My writing is based on things that happen around me. For example, as a teacher when I roam the examination hall in the role of a supervisor, I come across students in different modes of writing, which not only amuses me but also makes me want to write about it. Such a scenario led to the poem “Classroom Drama.” So as far as information and material is concerned, anything and everything interests me.
- “Name one thing you learned while creating your book.”
I learnt a lot of things in the process of bringing out my book. I don’t think I can pinpoint one particular aspect that changed me. “Docile No More” helped me learn that I could easily publish my work if I had the material. All I need is an ounce of self-confidence and the will to move on. Then everything flows into place.
- “Do you have any suggestions for me to become a better writer?”
Writing is an art. It requires both talent and practice. One must also be adept in the language to skillfully wield the pen and write words that can influence people. I would advise you to keep writing as that is the best way to perfect the art.
- “After this, are there any plans for your next book. If yes, then on what topic will it be?”
My next book is a travelogue, which I am currently working upon. Entitled “Wandering Woman,” the book is an attempt to collect my travel writing outside India together, to help others gain insight into these countries as well as explore them.
